Natural Hemp Sofa Slipcover

I imagine this vintage sofa was the focal point of a formal living room long ago. Check out the tufted back and fancy upholstery.

Now, it sits in my customer’s casual, cozy family room with an entirely updated look thanks to this shabby-chic hemp slipcover.

For this sofa makeover I used 100% hemp in a heavy weight linen weave with a grainy texture. Like linen, this fabric takes on a wonderful floppy feel and soft crumple when laundered. Rustic and gorgeous!

To reduce bulk in the seams I used a lighter weight hemp canvas for the welt cord.

My customer wanted to revive the quilted back detail but with fewer stitch lines. I achieved this by adding batting and lining to the hemp back panel and then stitched through all layers to create 4 padded sections.
