Summer Living with Indigo Denim Slipcovers

Classic Indigo Denim Love Seat Slipcover

Heavy weight indigo denim makes the best slipcovers for the cottage. It’s one of those fabrics you just don’t have to fuss over.

A couple of years ago I used 14 oz. yarn dyed indigo denim to make these sofa and love seat slipcovers for Ellen’s cute lakeside cottage in Clarklake, MI. I recently visited her there and was impressed at how well the fabric has held up to daily life on the lake.

These family-friendly denim slipcovers are tough and washable. Bring on the damp bathing suits and sandy feet!

Cottage-Style Canvas Slipcover for Sherrill Armchair

Chair Slipcover Cranberry Bayside Canvassherrill-armchair-burgandyCotton canvas with a twist. Now we’re talking!

My customer, Barb, and I are over the moon with this Bayside canvas by Roth Tompkins. It’s a variation on a classic weave perfect for cottage-style decor.

What makes this cloth different from basic cotton canvas? More texture, much softer hand-feel, fewer wrinkles and a wonderful high-low color effect that reminds me of worn denim.

This fabric works best for medium weight slipcovers that get moderate use.

Slipcovered in washed Bayside canvas, Barb’s old Sherrill chair now has the same relaxed look as her Bridgewater stripe wing back slipcovers and natural denim sofa slipcover.

Awning Stripe Slipcovers Update Traditional Wing Backs

Chair Slipcover in Bridgewater Stripe

natural denim slipcover arm close upI love how these awning stripe slipcovers completely changed the look of Barb’s traditional Henredon wing back chairs.

The fabric, Bridgewater by Roth Tompkins, is a thick cotton canvas with a wonderful cottage vibe.  The stripe is woven in, not printed. Nice! It marries beautifully with her washed, natural denim sofa slipcover.

Although this fabric is labeled Dry Clean Only, I did a wash test on a one yard sample. Thumbs up! The yardage can be washed and dried with good results.

Barb is in the process of transforming her living space from formal to casual. Instead of buying all new furniture, she is updating each one of her well-made upholstered pieces with a relaxed, family-friendly slipcover. A smart way to decorate especially since her furniture is in excellent condition.

Cushion Slipcovers for a Couch

A cushion makeover made this estate sale piece new again. It came to me with faded blue cushion covers and worn down loft. With a fluffy new wrap for the inserts and a Waverly floral print this couch is ready for the cottage-style living room it was intended for.
