White Slipcovers Unify Multiple Seating Areas in this Charming Living Room

White Denim Armchair SlipcoverMy customer got lucky with this estate sale treasure. English rolled arms, feather cushions, turned legs and good bones. This, my friends, is an ideal chair for a slipcover makeover.

Keep reading to see the before and take a tour of Nellie’s charming living room. You’ll love how she uses white slipcovers and blue + green accessories to unify her different furniture styles for multiple seating areas.

Isn’t this chair fabulous? Tempting as it was to live with the cheery green plaid, Nellie decided to go with a washable slipcover in 12 oz  white denim. I made it with a non-bleed navy welt and a box pleat skirt. This fabric was just thick enough to keep the upholstery from showing through.

Earlier this summer I transformed Nellie’s sofa, an outdated floral Henredon piece she found on Craigslist. This is the anchor piece of her living room and sets the look & feel for additional seating.

Her sofa and chair are completely different styles and brands yet they work well together. That’s because she chose the same fabric, color, trim and skirt design for both slipcovers.

Washed Denim Sofa Slipcover

The slipcovered armchair faces a second seating area in her living room. It’s paired with a large Ikea Ektorp sectional also dressed in white. Navy accents galore. So pretty!

White Denim Cushion Covers

And finally, the third seating area is across from the sofa. Nellie found these gorgeous rattan chairs — secondhand, of course. I slipcovered the cushions in the same white denim and navy welt as her sofa and armchair.

As I walked around my customer’s living room my eye was drawn to her beautifully curated shelves, tables, book cases, walls and mantel. I love creative layers of books, objects, vintage treasures, art and textiles. Eclectic style. Nellie’s personal touches add so much warmth and beauty to her home.

I hope this mini tour of Nellie’s living room sparks ideas for your next home decor project.  Cheers to making old furniture look new again with white slipcovers!

I love the chair you slipcovered for Nellie. It looks like a down cushion. Did you have to add additional feathers to it? I also love her house with your slipcover designs.

Thanks Jennifer! Yes, the seat cushion is filled with 100% feather/down. No foam insert, which is unusual. I didn’t add any feathers. I let a down cushion expert refresh or replace that type of cushion. Feather/down has to be blown in for best results. I think that chair was built over a dozen years ago and mostly likely that feather seat was a custom request.
