Sofa Slipcover in Pottery Barn Performance Tweed

Harding sofa before slipcover

Why would this new Harding sofa need a slipcover?  To protect the upholstery from spills and accidents, of course!

My customer wanted a soil and moisture resistant fabric with contemporary style.  We zeroed in on Pottery Barn Performance Tweed, color Graphite.

I was curious about this fabric at first.  I rarely use synthetic upholstery fabrics for slipcovers.  They are not an ideal choice for many reasons.  But to my surprise this 100% polyester tweed worked up nicely in a tailored fit.

I created a double zipper opening on the back for easy on and off.

The Graphite color and tweedy-chenille texture of this slipcover is very similar to the sofa’s upholstery.  It fits in beautifully with my customer’s living room color palette. Even her linen throw pillows look right at home. No redecorating necessary!

    1. Thanks, Sherri! The Performance Tweed is an interesting fabric. It sewed easily, no slipping or stretching, but many seams puckered, which don’t press out. Most of the pucker mysteriously disappeared when I put the slipcover on the sofa! I was surprised because the fabric has absolutely no give or stretch. Doesn’t wrinkle either!

  1. Wow! The slipcover fits perfectly…like a glove! It almost looks like it is upholstered! You sure do amazing work.

  2. Karen, I just came upon this as I was searching for a slip cover for a sleeper sofa. Where are you when I need you? Unless I find someone to make me a slip cover I will have to buy a new sofa 🙁 The cover on the couch now is a slip cover however I need a different color. This cover is really cool because it has velcro where needed so it doesn’t slide.
